If you're planning to sell your home one of these days, your goal, naturally, is to sell the property as soon as possible. While this is ideal, it isn't always the case. There may be instances where it's going to take a much longer time to seal the deal. Then, you begin to ask yourself whether or not you can stay in your house while it's up for sale or jump right into your new home while waiting for a buyer.

If the latter option isn’t even remotely plausible just yet, don't be dismayed. Staying in a home that's up for sale isn't as bad as you think. Surprisingly, doing such thing has a number of benefits,  like the following:

1. Easier To Welcome Potential Buyers

One part of selling a house is having an open house. While you'd like to have this all done within a specific time period of your own preference, there may be some potential buyers, be it individuals, or companies such as Jamie Buys Houses, that would come on separate schedules. As the seller, it’s just not right to turn down such requests.

If you don't live in the house that you're selling, it can be so much more of a hassle as you would need to regularly visit the property to entertain potential buyers. While you can leave the key to trusted neighbors and have the realtor take care of the house tour, it's still an added advantage if you're around during the open house.

Buyers and representatives of corporations like Element Homebuyers feel more welcome and at ease when the seller is around. Should they have any concerns that are best answered by the seller themselves, you're right there to give them the answers.

2. Ease Of Packing Your Belongings

To live in your house while it's up for sale also means you can take your time packing your belongings. This comes in handy, especially if you also have a full-time job to worry about. You don't have to rush the packing process simply because you need to vacate the house anytime soon. This gives you more time to think about which of your belongings you’d like to get rid of, donate, or keep. In general, it makes for a better and a more relaxed packing and moving experience.

3. No Need To Stage As Much

Staging a house while it's up for sale means designing it like it's on the showroom of one of those home design stores. You'll naturally want to increase the saleability of your home for it to survive in an industry where prices are rising.

If you're still inside your house while it's up for sale, this takes away the need for you to stage your home, which naturally entails a lot more effort on your part as you might have to clean your house every once in a while. But, the advantage is that it becomes easier for your guests to visualize what it’s really like to be living in your house. Also, it wouldn’t feel as empty and cold with your presence.

4. Gives You Time To Enjoy Your Home A Little Bit Longer

If you've been inhabiting your home for a long time now, it may be tough for you to let go of it right then and there. The same applies to your children, too.

When you get to live in the house while it's already up for sale, this eases out the transition process. You and your children wouldn’t have to dive into that change so drastically. Little by little, you all see your personal belongings disappearing one by one, giving you an ample amount of time to internalize the reality that you're indeed leaving your house.

5. More Effortless Maintenance

When you don't live in your house that's up for sale, you're substantially maintaining two properties at the very same time. There's that old house, then there's the new home. Of course, you'd still need to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of your previous property to make it appear more pleasing to the buyers. All this includes maintaining the curb and cleaning the bathrooms. When you're managing two properties at once, expect added expenses as well.

Conclusion

Of the many things that are involved in selling a house, one of the least talked about topics has to do with staying in it while it's up for sale. This is for obvious reasons. Not many homeowners generally choose this option as one of the first moves they carry out has always been to leave the house as soon as it's made available on the market. But, if you don't want to be pressured that much, know that it’s never a sin to occupy a property while it’s up for grabs. As long as you don't mind the constant coming in and out of visitors, it can be a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.
