At our core, Marks Out Of Tenancy is - and always will be - a space where renters can rate and review their landlords, letting agents, and renting experiences. Whether it’s flagging poor maintenance, celebrating a helpful landlord, or sharing insight into neighbourhood safety, every review contributes to a more informed and empowered renting community.

We’re proud that thousands of tenants have used our platform to speak up, seek justice, and make better choices.

Now with a new look and a sharper focus, Marks Out Of Tenancy has evolved into something bigger. While we remain a vital resource for tenants, we’re now also powering data services that help local authorities and institutions tackle the root causes of poor housing.

Your Trusted Rental Review Platform - Now Even Better

Our mission remains unchanged. Marks Out Of Tenancy continues to be your go-to place to share honest reviews and gain valuable insights about rental properties. We’re as committed as ever to helping tenants make informed choices and driving positive change across the rental market.

We've recently streamlined our rating system from a 10-star scale to a simpler, more intuitive 5-star format. This change makes it quicker and easier for tenants to leave clear, meaningful feedback about their rental experiences. With fewer stars to choose from, ratings become more impactful, allowing prospective tenants to understand reviews at a glance. This updated approach aligns with widely recognised review standards across popular platforms, making it simpler for users to engage and compare rental experiences confidently.

Advanced Data Services for Local Authorities

In addition to tenant reviews, we now provide powerful data services to local authorities across the UK.

By compiling data from over 70 FCA-regulated sources, we calculate the number of financial identities linked to each property address. This allows us to estimate occupancy rates and provide local authorities with actionable intelligence to identify:

  • Unlicensed HMOs
  • Finding renters most at risk of homelessness
  • Overcrowded Properties
  • Empty Homes
  • Council Tax Fraud (Single Person Discount fraud)

These insights help councils target resources, improve housing standards, and enforce compliance more effectively. Learn more about our work with local authorities here.

Supporting Students and Universities

Students are often among the most vulnerable tenants, facing unique challenges like poor-quality housing, confusing contracts, and unreliable landlords. That’s why we work closely with universities and student unions to give students a platform to review their rental experiences, make better-informed decisions, and hold letting agents and landlords to account.

Our insights help universities support their students more effectively and campaign for safer, fairer housing. Whether it’s a fresher renting for the first time or a final-year student planning ahead, we’re here to make renting more transparent.
