The landlord is shameless taking advantage of international students struggling to find an accommodation. At the end of the contract he does all he can to retain part of the deposit. Once put in front of the fact that there was not evidence whatsoever of damages, he admitted he did it "to challenge his tenants" and with the pedagogical aim of "teaching to read a contract carefully". If it wasn't for the fact that I needed a reference letter from him, I would have proceed for legal action.
