The person I dealt with was Mark Ross who is a Director of Barbican Estates Limited (Company number 08450262). He is a director of many different letting companies, according to Companies House. This company appears to be insolvent, and therefore the director should not be trading. Unfortunately I could not view the property in person before entering into a tenancy agreement and that was a big mistake. I paid him one month's rent in advance and the deposit. When I arrived the place was uninhabitable, toilet did not work, mold, dirty etc. He could not meet me at the property on the day due to "personal issues". When I raised these issues with him, he was aggressive and his response on the toilet not working was that "the toilet was not included in the contract". I realised I had been fooled. My deposit was never put into a scheme, so it was never protected. I never got back my month's rent in advance and my deposit. He just disappeared. I hope other tenants can learn from my mistakes and be warned to not lease any property from this person or his companies. Always view the property in person first and investigate into the landlord (and if a company use Companies House to look at accounts etc).
