The landlord seemed fine a 56 year old lady in March 2026 but when I moved in she turned out to be paranoid, delusional and definitely not ready to share her nice flat with anyone. Her neighbour confirmed that none of the people who stay at her flat stay very long.
On the first night she was going speed dating and before she went out said don't take my M&M's sweets, the next day saying she was really worried I was going to steal her M&M's.
The next day I was washing or rinsing my 2 pillows in the washing machine but needed Karen's help as I didn't know where the isolating switch was, she debated that I should not wash pillows in the first place and I should use hers, I explained you can wash pillows but she then tried to tell me it would unbalance the washing machine which I explained it wouldn't because I washing 2 pillows together.
Then came the even crazier part, she asked how I was going to dry the pillow's, I explained I would use the tumble drier, Karen explained you can only use between 12 midnight and 5am for the cheaper rate. I explained i needed to use it so the pillows would be ready in time for bed and she said no you can't so I said I would pay her a pound for the difference in electricity rate. She mumbled something I did not hear walking away.
She later came back and said we need to speak about this morning's discussion and rather than a simple reasonable discussion I was attacked and she accused me of disrespect and breaching the lodger rules. It was her house and this is not acceptable. Clearly a petty unhinged lady on day 3 to act in such a way. She in fact is the culprit of everything I was being accused of.
I was then asked to leave within the next month or if I find a place earlier she would give a rent refund. I agreed and explained we are not compatible. I followed this up in an email stating we are not compatible and I'll move out as agreed. I then received an eviction notice to move out in 7 days for breaching the lodger agreement washing machine rule even though we had discussed it prior to me using it.
DO NOT SIGN A LODGER AGREEMENT with this woman. I have requested Spareroom start providing landlord and lady reviews something like UBER that can be managed by spareroom and a small fee with a more detailed review of comments and ratings.
I believe this lady is habitually or serially taking advantage of lodgers and trying to withhold deposit's with fabricated or fraudulent damage claims.
For me included stealing a standard yellow coat hanger that got mixed up with mine which I explained I would bring back the next morning no other hanger would do!!
a broken bed lamp which was working fine when I checked it,
currently I am expecting to be blamed for a toilet leak which was fine during the final days checks but the day after i had left the property I was sent photo's of a bathroom leak & an emergency plumber being called. I explained it had nothing to do with me and I would like to check the toilet but I was not allowed to enter the flat. When I explained I would wait to discuss it with the plumber outside the flat I reckon she was forced into calling one and if I hadn't she probably would have fabricated some plumber cost or basically wanted a free service of her toilet macerator.
While I was waiting a lady arrived with a wet vacuum hoover to dry the leak on the carpet which I believe she may have sprayed water on the carpet and floor herself. She probably would have tried to charge me for a carpet cleaner or something if I didn't stay there waiting and catch her.
I am waiting to see if she tries to deduct money for this. If she does I will take the lady to court to recover any money.
She provides an option pillows, duvet and mattress topper if needed, I only needed a duvet as my new one was in the post, she charged me £18 to have it dry cleaned when it had a duvet protector on it.
Deposit return by post within 20 days and she won't reply on a transfer date or amount. I am expecting the worst with this lady. A nice flat but this lady needs some counselling and possibly consider medication.
