Rachel was my landlord for 2 years when living in an HMO in Montpelier. During the tenancy, my experience was mostly average.
Pros:
- Rent was reasonable at the time for the location.
- Was relaxed about me repainting a feature wall and putting pictures up.
- Dealt with some necessary repairs such as plumbing issues.
Cons:
- House was quite shabby otherwise.
- Had favourites in the house, including problem tenants who were violent or stole money from previous housemates - would not get involved even when police were called.
- Sometimes quite cold in general communication.
Main issue was that despite being a Christian deacon, she issued a Section 21 on the house to give management over to a local church. This was out of the blue, with a letter hand-delivered through our door only a few months after we'd welcomed a new co-tenant, and she would not consider any extension on the notice period. Many of us faced housing insecurity for at least 6 months afterwards. Ultimately, prospective tenants should not trust her to be an ethical or caring landlord.
