I have had more than one bad landlord, but Theresa crowns them all.
She avoided any and all contact about the serious problems with the property, with water leaking through the roof and a poorly-built wall being soaked through in to the room. She would not respond to any e-mails or messages, and angrily shouted and hung up attempts at a phone call.
After months of a bedroom being uninhabitable and hostile evasion from Theresa, we had to have a council environmental health officer visit and submit a notice of required repairs to Theresa.
After a while, she had workmen come to the house without giving us notice, and while we were out drill in our bedroom without covering anything, leaving a coating of fine brick dust on all of our belongings and bedding - shoddily installing an air brick in to the wall which made the room even colder and harder to heat, and did not address the causes of the problems. Eventually she was pressured to have work done on the roof, but she clearly hired the cheapest guys without having any understanding of the problem, which was related to the north wall, and got fleeced for a partial replacement of tiles. Utterly incompetent and useless - she refused to consult with us and did not notify us of when workmen were coming.
At the end of the tenancy she wrote a spurious inventory photographing little defects in the decoration that were pre-existing and putting arbitrary fees to each, taking the whole deposit. We threatened a court case to negotiate getting a small portion of the deposit we ought to have had returned.
By pure chance, we met through work another of her tenants, who similarly had an experience from hell!
Some people should not qualify to rent out housing or to own housing that they don't live in. Theresa is one such person, who happens to own quite a few.
