I rent the top floor of a residential building in Brent. the Landlord is an older couple living on the ground floor and there are 3 student-age (in their 20ies) girls living on the 1st floor. The 2nd floor (mine) is an attic which has been used by the landlord['s daughter for a while, it has not been rented out before to the public. When I rented I asked about sound insulation and tenant qualities. They said it was quiet but forgot to mention that the attic has not been insulated properly and the walls are not really walls just single plastic boards across, and that the walls are not even finished in the storage room and I can crawl behind them along the house length and can see the real conditions. You have no privacy at all, from the 3 girls on the 2nd floor and the thudding and knocking pipes and water sound around you. The landlord's husband has anger management issues on top and slams everything in his way, with full power. The house is not well maintained, not just in the attic, but None of the doors are kept in shape: some of them are creaking like hell (the 2nd floor tenants act on it, too), and almost all doors cannot be closed properly only if you force it which means anybody leaving the building just shuts the entrance door like a crazy person.
Tiny thing: there is no oven, only a portable hob from ikea (the kitchen corner is tiny). It did not bother me that much though, got used to it.
