The walls were thin, covered in black mould and in desperate need of a new paint job. The flat hadn't been professionally cleaned prior to the inventory. One of the locks was broken (something that the clerk had picked up on during the inventory but had forgotten to mention in her notes) so when I moved in, I spent my first two hours in the flat physically trapped inside. The original mattress was dirty (this was eventually replaced with a deeply uncomfortable mattress weeks later) and there were drawers in the bedroom that didn't open and close properly. The washing machine broke within a week of my moving in and was never repaired afterwards. There were raised edges on the carpet which posed a safety hazard.

The flat was very dark, most probably due to its positioning right behind the trees and the fact that the windows were too small. The corridor outside of the flat always stank of urine and sick. The intercom was useless as it was normally too quiet to hear what people were saying and it didn't actually unlock the main entrance so you still had to run down several flights of stairs to let anyone in.
