Landlord review for James And Deborah Boulton, Lincoln

Landlord rating: 1
We do not recommend any tenant to stay at 2 Lindum Avenue Lincoln. The property was managed through the landlords James Boulton and Deborah Boulton and the experience through them was appalling. We do not recommend any tenant to stay at that property after experiencing multiple issues. The property was very deceiving upon viewing. The property has a chimney in every room, bar one. We experienced multiple insect infestations from the attic costing a total of £269. The first time we raised this issue, we were told by James Boulton it wasn’t the his problem. Wasps traveled through the cracks in the walls and through the chimneys. We hired pest control who removed the nest in attic. Couple months later we had two ladybird infestations where many ladybugs appeared on the windows, a few found in my bed repeatedly. We experienced two heavy leaking within the rear first floor room. The first time heavy rain water leaked through the cracks above the window. A few of our personal belongings were damaged as a result. There was no emergency/instant response from the landlords. This went on for days, until a workman came out and filled on the cracks on the exterior wall. 6/7 months later after during autumn/winter time, the same issue happened again during Storm Babet, however this time it was 100 times worse. Heavy water leaked through above the window, making so much noise, it was cold and wet. My bed and mattress was completely wet through and damaged worth £450. Again, after persistent polite messages for an urgent response it took 3 days for a “temporary fix”. The landlords could have easily helped prevent the water coming through with a plastic sheet. But again, we were treated like we had to deal with it until the workman’s diary was free. After a day black mould appeared everywhere. We also reported subsidence as multiple cracks appeared throughout the property over time getting worse for months. I have been dealing with serious health problems and I have been in surgery and during the course of my treatment, Deborah appeared at the property uninvited and wasn’t listening to a word I was saying and tried to have a workman come in while I wasn’t well and I had previously asked to be left alone to recover. She was more concerned herself and having new tenants in asap. This was 2 weeks before end of tenancy, she didn’t respect our personal space or the fact we wanted to be left alone. Before leaving I also asked James for help on how to turn the water mains off, to remove the washing machine and his response was “I am not a plumber”. He was very blunt, rude and unhelpful. This couple say they go to church, well I’ve never met “good people”. We’ve never caused any problems, we have always paid our rent on time, and never asked for money to compensate for the repeated issues. Thank god we decided to leave. I’m very upset and disappointed with how the landlords responses. We took multiple pictures, and have a recording of the conversation between Deborah and myself where she refused to listen to anything I was saying about my serious health condition and tried patronising me to wait in one room while, or to leave with her for one hour while he surveyed. We have left the property in the same condition we found it in, clean, tidy and replaced lightbulbs and one flimsy door handle which broke after 2 days of being there. The property requires serious insulation and maintenance. You’ll end up spending a fortune on central heating as the property is poorly insulated due to multiple cracks and the chimneys not being cemented in. Don’t be fooled to live there unless it had construction, insulation and is managed through Munday’s.
