Dangerous area, plenty of shops nearby. Station close, trains are cheap and frequent.

selly oak. it is a dodgy area, lots of shops and takeaways nearby however which is good.

Area generally has lots to do, but not the safest and properties are often far away from the main road with poor street lighting

Local area is fairly crime heavy, although we do feel safe in our property, as it is off the road. We are also right around the corner from the train station, as well as just down the road from the local shops, takeaways and bus stop.

Selly Oak is quite dangerous with high levels of crime such as muggings, robberies, cars set on fire and harassment. Lots of easy public transport such as train station and bus routes. Lots in the neighbourhood such as pubs, bars, restaurants, stationary shops and supermarkets etc

On Dale Road, so best location for shops, getting to uni, transport. Sometimes noisy as you can hear people leaving the pubs (particularly after a football match) but not too much of an issue

Area is very good for amenities such as shops, transport, university and sporting facilities. Safety in the area is questionable with a few disturbances arising from time to time.

Unsafe because it’s in Selly Oak but not as bad crime wise as some of the other roads. 5 min walk from station and uni.

I’m sure everyone in Selly Oak has a love, hate relationship with the neighbourhood. While there are great shops, pubs, (too many) fast food outlets, supermarkets etc. the area is just not taken care of but that is due to the temporary nature of students I guess! Piles of bins, broken glass and litter are a few problems in the area but it is a community many care about and strive to make our own. Safety in Selly Oak is another big concern and being mindful when out and about alone is paramount! Coming from London I’m fairly familiar with ‘street smart’ conduct but hearing some of the things that happen in the area, it could be anyone!

Love selly oak ! One of the best student hubs ever . Very unique to bham to have all the students in the same residential area and so close to one another .
