Tenancy review for 14 Penshurst Crescent in Campbell Park Old Woughton, Milton Keynes rented from Justin Whittmore rented via Squares Estate Agents

Landlord takes absolutely no responsibility for the house or the happiness of its tenants. Communication is shocking, and if you try and explain to him how unhappy you are with the state of the house he says it’s an ‘attack’ and I should stop emailing him, when all I said was that I was appalled at the lack of respect he seems to have for us tenants. I sent emails about the things that were wrong with the house, I asked about the cleaner and I was just told to speak to the handy man who came and fixed probably 3 or the 10 items on the snagging list and the rest of my concerns were ignored. It seems that he’s more interested in making money then in the happiness and safety of his tenants.

Agency were ok if a bit curt on the phone, seemed to be a weird set up between them and the landlord with the payment and deposit going through to them and the contract coming from them but all communication going through the landlord. As such they didn't seem very knowledgeable about when I could move in etc. Also took a while to receive everything and I didn’t get confirmation of my tenancy deposit being held with the DPS until nearly 4 months after I moved in. Very odd.

Property was a bit dirty when I viewed but I was assured that it was just because the cleaner hadn’t been yet. Once I moved in it still wasn’t that clean and I had to email the landlord about the cleanliness alongside a whole host of other snagging issues including the dishwasher not working, the tv point not working, the mouldy fridge and the broken light in the spare room - all of which were pointed out to me during the viewing and thus assumed working. The other piece of mis sold information was the cleaner - it’s been 4 months and I don’t think they exist. Overall I’ve been bitterly disappointed when I was so excited to move in because it seemed on the viewing that it ticked all the boxes. It’s a nice house too it’s a shame that there isn’t a bit of love and care and there’s only so much I can do. I’m now stuck here for 6 months until the end of the contract.

The neighbourhood is lovely and it’s a pity that my experience here has been such a shambles as it has the potential to be a lovely home if things were just fixed in a timely manner and the cleaner that was advertised actually existed.
