I wish I could give this landlord zero stars. My experience renting from him was extremely negative.

Despite numerous repair requests, the landlord tried to fix issues himself, prioritising cost-saving over tenant welfare. He often referenced financial pressures, which led to frustratingly long repair timelines. After nearly five years of very poor living conditions, I had no choice but to take legal action to renovate the property into basic living conditions, due to the long delay enabled by the environmental health department.

Communication was also lacking and he called the police on me multiple times over minor disputes, such as a cabinet in the garden that he moved without my consent. He even attempted to force his way into my home and obstructed assistance, creating an uncomfortable and traumatic living situation. This is just a glimpse of the many negative experiences I encountered.

While he may seem friendly and considerate at first, his attitude quickly shifts when tenants assert their rights. He demonstrated a complete lack of respect, and I often felt undervalued as a renter. I noticed particularly dismissive and disrespectful interactions toward me as a woman, which is concerning but not surprising in today's still deeply mysoginist society.

The landlord's disregard for tenant privacy and right to enjoyment of property made my living conditions unbearable; I often felt unwelcome and distressed in what should have been my home.

While I did manage to fix the flat, I only stayed four months post-court ordered repairs out of my five-year tenancy. That's my legacy for the next tenant—if there is one. I hope they encounter fewer issues, as much less repair work will be needed thanks to my efforts.

Unfortunately, I gained nothing from my fight, while the landlord continues to benefit.

That’s how capitalism works: the less wealthy often do the work for the wealthy, even while paying them ironically.

I cannot recommend renting from this slumlord. Future female tenants should consider their options very carefully and seek out more professional and empathetic landlords.

I sincerely hope he learns from this experience and treats the next tenant with the respect they deserve.

The property I rented was a converted garage lacking planning permission and proper maintenance. From day one, I faced numerous issues, including rodent infestations, persistent leaks, dampness, and mould, making it a health hazard. The inadequate insulation left the space uncomfortably cold, and I had no control over the heating.

Throughout my nearly five-year tenancy, the landlord prioritised cost over tenant welfare, leading to frustrating delays in repairs.

Basic amenities were lacking, contributing to a feeling of discomfort and neglect.

Despite having a lovely large garden in a safe, privileged neighbourhood, the small living space—especially the extremely cramped bathroom—lacked privacy, sufficient storage and space.

Overall, my experience was marred by poor maintenance, insufficient space, disrespectful landlord behaviour, and a disregard for tenant wellbeing and rights.

Lovely suburban area. The reason I stayed so long was because of how quiet and safe the area along with thriving wildlife and lots of parks nearby. A 10 minute walk to tube and transport links.
