Over £400 of our deposit was held for cleaning, it was communicated to us this was as a result of spider webs and dust- although the property had been empty for a while before the inspection was carried out. There was major damage in the hallway which had exposed brick and would grow mould, we were told the landlord did not want to damp proof the property as it would mean the property would be empty for that duration (could be done between tenancies). Instead opted to plaster and then replaster continuously when the wall would grow fluffy mould.

When mould was being investigated in the front bedroom (black mould which contaminated my flatmates belongings such as shoes and bags) we were told there would be compensation for the damages- even down to the cloth the agent used to wipe the mould would be replaced as it’s “the principle”. None of this happened. Several weeks after the remainder of the deposit was released to us, the agent got in contact saying they had then later noticed a hole in the wall. We asked for a photo as we had no memory of this and certainly didn’t cause any damage to walls. No photo came, and this wasn’t pressed at all. Then they decided there was suddenly also an issue with the toilet flush. Which was exactly as it was when we moved in. I suspect that if we hadnt stood out grounds on this we would be charged for damage we didn’t cause.
