I found the landlord to be overly friendly with other girls. I believe he let himself into my room with no warning or explanation as to why.Would often refer to previous tenants as 'crazy', and tell us it wasn't cold (I kept a thermometer in my room - Winter with heating on is was 13 degrees regularly). I have photographic evidence of these low temperatures. I often felt intimidated and he refused to "argue" by shutting any conversation down, so conditions wouldn't change. The feeling was, 'its my house, my rules, I will do what I like'.

Moved into a unfinished room, despite being told the room would be ready, lived out of a suitcase for the first month. Heating hardly went on and had to buy a space heater. No smoke alarm in the new area until Nov (despite the woodburner). Walls were made of pretty much cardboard with no sound proofing, window installed 2 months after arrival and no curtains. Live with 14 other people at one point as landlord took in minors (was not told about this previously) had 1 working shower for most the year and 2 toilets, between all in the house, no locks on doors. Place was mouldy and damp, roof leaked when it rained, nothing was done about this. Had half a shelf in the fridge, and was shamed by landlord for eating meat.
Wifi was rubbish and ended up buying my own data in order to work.
At least one room was in breach of fire safety and builder I spoke to said the man had cut many corners while sorting the new part of the house and he 'would never allow his daughter to say somewhere like this'.

Monkton Combe is a lovely little village, quiet and pretty, some good walks around.
Would need a car though as buses to bath are regularly late
