People should know this before they move in, I wish I did. The landlord acts like a very sick, corrupt, and perverted old man. I think the vast reviews sum up how much of a control freak he is.

Not only was he always lurking around the house, failing to mention that he lived there until I moved in, he was also in a weird relationship with one of his tenants. They would always be together in the living room or in the kitchen, touching inappropriately and talking loudly. He made us all feel uncomfortable (apart from that 1 girl of course :)).

He would say racist things to the Asian girls that lived with me, making comments about their food and culture (especially when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he would put them down and ask them whether they eat bats). He would also make fun of people who ate meat and make them feel like they are bad people. I would end up arguing with him about silly things that shouldn't even be questioned, such as putting a working light bulb in the corridor. The majority of us tried to leave the contract early because of how bad it was and how much we hated living there, but the landlord would not allow it (unless we paid for the remaining month and he kept our deposit).

He would argue with anyone who tried to confront him about any issues, personal or house-related. He would tell you that "no one else" thinks like you and make you think that you are crazy or stupid. He would get in my face when arguing. He even recommended my friend (another tenant) to a dodgy modelling agency!

The house was absolutely horrific. There was mould everywhere, leading to a lot of tenants constantly getting sick. There was no light bulb in the hallways and when asked to put one in the landlord would refuse and tell us to use our phones as a source of light (I have photographic evidence)! A girl I lived with fell down the stairs and the landlord then agreed to put a light bulb in their hallway, but mine was still left with no light bulb.

The rooms are very small and frail, as well as the insulation being very minimal. During the winter, the landlord controlled the heating and refused to tell us where the boiler/heat control was. It would be 5 degrees outside and there would still be no heating, we had to argue with him until he finally decided to put it on in around the middle of November. Even when the heating was on, it would be on for a few hours a day and turned off all night so it was freezing. The kitchen is spacious but usually very dirty and cold. If you have a car then parking is very limited and on gravel/stones. The floorboards in the toilet were broken, and the actual toilet and shower was disgusting and yellow. The landlord lied about having a cleaner, there was no cleaner.

RATS!!! Myself and other tenants all heard rats in the roof, crawling around and making horrible scratching noises. Not much was done about it because they kept coming back, but the landlord will try and tell you otherwise. Overall, just a very old, poorly-managed house made worse by the landlord.

Area review for Bathavon South, Bath

There are no closeby shops. The closest shop is in the city centre which is a 15 minute walk to the bus stop and then another 15 minute ride into the city centre. The buses only come every 30 minutes and stop running at around 11pm. Also, if you are walking in the dark, there are no street lamps so you would need to use a flashlight to see where you are going as the route takes you through a forest. If you are planning to take a bus/walk to uni then you are f***ed.

If you have a car then the actual drive to uni (Bath university) is fairly short but it is all uphill with dangerous, twisty, narrow roads. My friend had a car accident in the neighbourhood due to the poor visibility and how old the area is.
