The landlord is based in Leeds (A-Team Properties) and doesn’t have anyone local to Sheffield to respond to repairs. So if repairs were required he’d often ignore them. At one point our toilet with a macerator was blocked, and eventually started leaking from the ceiling beneath the bathroom, causing a stain. He didn’t respond quickly enough and still charged us for damages. A TV license is also included in our rent and he ignored our emails about receiving letters stating we hadn’t been issued one. He didn’t set one up until we threatened legal action. The ‘cleaners’ who came round before we moved in barely cleaned the place and dumped all the rubbish on the front garden, allowing it to rot. We had to clean it up ourselves because he wouldn’t deal with it properly.

The property was listed by the lettings boutique and they were all-round pretty good. They kept us informed and responded to emails fairly quickly. They did mess up and organise a house visit without giving us notice, which is illegal but it was quickly resolved.

The property was in good condition and most rooms (besides the attic rooms) were decently sized. However, the state of the property when we arrived was terrible and some furniture was broken and unusable. Most of the furniture wasn’t replaced either. There’s also a decent sized back garden area. It’s not very soundproof and because it’s an old property it’s rubbish at insulating heat as well.

The area is really nice and close to both universities, plus the neighbours are really nice and helpful. It’s pretty close to the city centre, supermarkets and shops. Although it’s on a popular walkway between both unis, so there’s some drunk chaos at 2am on weekends.
