I never met in person the real landlady as I was told she was in Turkey, but her husband was managing the house. He was a constant presence in the house, as his own room was attached to the kitchen. He was quite intrusive and controlling and demanded that house maintenance, cleaning and even cooking be performed by his own rules (he actually had quite a lengthy manuscript of house rules). He could access my room every time I wasn't in and he would often comment on things like finding too many shoes on the room's floor or finding the curtains open (he thought this was a safety hazard).
When I gave him notice of leaving the house according to the terms of the agreement, he started to organize viewings with very little notice, and unfairly complaining on the conditions of the room (which I cleaned on purpose every time).
One day while I was in the process of moving my belongings to the new place he decided I had terminated my tenancy prematurely and therefore he evicted me. He changed the main door's lock and never returned my deposit. I challenged him in court, won the case but still he never paid back my deposit.

The rooms were big and in good conditions, as the rest of the house. However, the rooms had no external locks, so the landlord could come in whenever he pleased.

The neighbourhood was quiet and just a short walk away from the high street. Connections with uni and the city center were a bit slow but acceptable.
